Privacy Policy

What stays on your device

LingoCAN does not require an account. The following data is stored only on your device and is never uploaded to us:

• Your answers, scores, streaks and study progress
• Bookmarks, writing drafts and handwritten notes
• Your language preference and reminder settings

Deleting the app deletes this data. Notifications are scheduled locally on your device; we do not operate a push-notification server.

Analytics

We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used. For example, which exercises are most popular and whether purchases complete. This involves:

• Usage data: screens viewed and in-app events (e.g. a question answered, a subscription started)
• Device identifiers: a random app-instance ID, device model, OS version, language and coarse region

This data is aggregated, is not linked to your identity, and is not used to track you across apps or websites. LingoCAN does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA) and contains no third-party advertising. Firebase's handling of this data is described in Google's Firebase privacy documentation.

The LingoCAN website

The LingoCAN web app at lingocan.app is available to Pro subscribers and to people with a promo code. It works with the same principle as the app: your study progress is kept in your browser.

• Linking your phone. When you scan the code with the app, a copy of your progress is held on our server for up to 2 minutes so your browser can collect it, then it is deleted. We also check that your subscription is active with Apple or Google, and keep a random identifier of the subscription so only one browser is signed in at a time. A cookie keeps you signed in for up to 7 days. We cannot tell who you are from it.
• Promo codes. To open the website with a promo code we ask for your email address. We save it with the code you used, the time, and your country. We use it to give you access and to help with support. If you tick "Send me LingoCAN updates", we may also email you news about LingoCAN, and you can unsubscribe at any time. We do not sell or share your email. To see or delete your data, write to [email protected].
• Analytics. The website uses Google Analytics for Firebase, which sets cookies to count visits and see which pages are used, and Vercel Analytics, which counts visits and page speed without cookies. Both are aggregated and do not identify you by name.
• Hosting. The website is hosted by Vercel, with a database from Upstash for short-lived sign-in data and the promo sign-up list.

Content delivery

Exam questions, audio and translations are downloaded from our content servers (hosted by Supabase). Like any web server, they process your IP address to deliver content and keep short-lived technical logs. No study data is sent with these requests.

Purchases

Subscriptions and offer codes are processed entirely by Apple through your Apple ID. We never see your name, payment details or billing address.

Children

LingoCAN is an exam-preparation tool intended for users preparing for Canadian immigration and is not directed at children under 13.
